Snapshot

Conservative Edward Timpson was first elected to the Commons in 2008 Crewe and Nantwich by-election and retained his majority until 2017. During his time in government he was PPS to Home Secretary Theresa May for two years, parliamentary under-secretary of state for children and families for three, and minister for children and families for a further two. He is a qualified family barrister who, appropriately, specialised in cases involving vulnerable children, and he became chair of the Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel during his parliamentary interregnum. As a Timpson (his father owns and chairs the eponymous company), he knows the surrounding north-west area well, and practised law in the area for a number of years. He first studied Political Sciences at Durham, and voted Remain in the EU referendum, but his newfound support for Boris Johnson’s Brexit must have helped give him the edge over his similarly remain voting predecessor Antoinette Sandbach. Timpson’s current seat is Eddisbury, where he enjoys a majority of 18,443.
