Snapshot

David Morris took the previously Labour-held seat of Morecambe and Lunesdale for the Conservatives in 2010, leaving behind one former career managing hair salons in Manchester. Another previous career involved writing songs for the likes of Jason Donovan and Sonia, and Morris is known for his famous friends, including Brian May and David Hasselhoff, the latter of whom Morris introduced to David Cameron in 2011. Morris, who supported Remain in 2016 but has since favoured leaving the EU with a deal, backed Jeremy Hunt in the 2019 Conservative leadership elections and has served on the Science and Technology Committee, the Administration Committee and the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee. He has served as permanent private secretary to the Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland Officers (thought to be the first politician to do so) and, in 2014, was appointed by David Cameron the first ever self-employment “Tsar”. He is chair of the Conservative Friends of Nuclear Energy and is committed to protecting constituency jobs in the area. Morris was able to increase his majority in the 2019 general election more than three-fold, from just shy of 1,500 to more than 6,000.
