Snapshot

Almost exactly 48 years before his 2019 election to Westminster, Allan Dorans moved to London to join the Metropolitan Police. He advanced his career quickly, and became a detective inspector at the age of 28. After his service with the police he picked up a smattering of jobs before becoming a full time SNP councillor for South Ayrshire Council. Dorans took immense pride in swearing in on a Scots Bible, and has been appointed to the SNP’s shadow foreign and commonwealth team with Alyn Smith as the lead. Dorans is on the APPG for Scottish sport. He has previously been on a range of APPGs including aerospace, armed forces, cancer, loan charge, public and commercial services, veterans and the wood panel industry. Dorans has been a vocal supporter of veterans and cancer sufferers. He is also a strong advocate for WASPI, referencing this fight for just women’s pensions in his maiden speech. Since 2020, he has been on the European Scrutiny Committee. In November 2020, he was one of a number of cross-party MPs requesting that health workers be given indefinite leave to stay in the UK.
