Dave Doogan was elected as the SNP MP for Angus in the 2019 general election, taking the seat back from the Conservatives who had surprisingly taken the SNP stronghold two years earlier. He won the seat with a comfortable 3,795. Born in Perth, Doogan is a former aircraft engineer with the Ministry of Defence. He left the MoD in 2007 to study Politics and International Relations at the University of Dundee. In 2012, he was elected as a councillor for Perth City North ward on Perth and Kinross Council, where he served as housing and health convenor. In 2017 he became leader of the SNP group on the council and leader of the opposition. Following his election to Westminster, Doogan announced his intention to stand down from the council at some point in 2020. In January 2020 he was appointed as the shadow SNP spokesperson for agriculture and rural affairs.
