Snapshot

After attending Brunel University, the Conservative MP for Derbyshire Dales, Sarah Dines, was called to the Bar in 1988. As a barrister, Dines specialised in family law, handling all sorts of aspects from complex financial and business assets to cases involving social care and international child law. She was raised in a council house and educated at a comprehensive school. During the election campaign she said her priorities were saving the green belt from development and improving digital connectivity for the area. And having represented many vulnerable members of society as a family lawyer, Dines says she is well aware of the domestic economic and social problems facing modern families. She is very interested in rural affairs given both sides of her family’s background in farming. Dines has voted against Lords amendments to the Agriculture Bill. She is a member of APPGs on environment, Norfolk Island and the Pacific Islands. Since 2020, she has been a member of the Justice Committee. In autumn 2020, Dines lobbied unsuccessfully against the introduction of a second national lockdown. Once implemented, she wrote to the PM to request that churches stay open.
