Snapshot
Angela Crawley is one of the SNP’s sizeable 2015 intake, elected at the age of 28. Crawley has been extremely active in parliament. She currently sits on the Health and Social Care Select Committee as well as being the only SNP member on the Women and Equalities Commission, chaired by Maria Miller. It was recently announced that the committee would be conducting an in-depth review of the most recent legislation affecting the rights of the UK’s transgender community – another cause Crawley has cared closely about. Crawley is also her party’s spokesperson on a range of issues, including pensions, equalities and disabilities, youth affairs and children and families. She is one of the Commons’ 28 MPs who identify as LGBT, and was named in Forbes’ “30 Under 30 Europe” list for Law & Policy, with the magazine listing her as a key figure within Westminster’s LGBT rights lobby. Crawley’s main legislative priorities have included shoring up policies against domestic abuse, and equal pay for women. Crawley was critical of Boris Johnson’s decision to prorogue parliament in September 2019, saying that the prime minister was acting like a “tinpot dictator”.
