Snapshot

Andy Carter is a former radio journalist. He was programming director for the Guardian’s radio business in Leeds and helped to launch Smooth Radio in the UK, based in Salford. He later launched a consultancy business, helping retailers to develop private label ranges. Carer then became a magistrate and a parish councillor, before becoming deputy chairman of Warrington Conservatives. His priorities include campaigning for improvements to rail services and roads in his constituency. In parliament, he has been successful in campaigning for more investment in Warrington. Although Carter voted to remain in the 2016 referendum, he has since backed government efforts to leave the EU, saying that he is “a democrat” and that because the country voted to leave in 2016, “we should deliver on that result”. After voting in favour of the 10pm curfew for pubs (a measure designed to alleviate the spread of coronavirus in 2020), Carter was barred for life from pubs by landlords in his constituency.
