Snapshot
A long-term Eurosceptic and outspoken critic of several Conservative leaders, Andrew Bridgen has been the MP for North West Leicestershire since 2010, becoming the first Conservative to represent North West Leicestershire in 13 years. During his time in parliament, he has served on several committees including the Draft Deregulation Bill Joint Committee and Regulatory Reform Committee. His political career has been marked by high-profile disagreements with colleagues within his party. He submitted a letter of no confidence in David Cameron which he withdrew after failing to attract the support of enough colleagues to trigger a vote and also wrote a letter of no confidence in relation to Theresa May in 2018. When he raised concerns about the inappropriate behaviour of fellow Conservative MP, Dan Poulter, the investigation was dropped due to the unsubstantiated appearing unsubstantiated. Bridgen also reported former speaker, John Bercow, to the parliamentary commissioner for standards. Bridgen supported Leave in the 2016 EU referendum and voted against Theresa May’s withdrawal agreement on all three occasions, later backing Boris Johnson in the 2019 leadership contest. Bridgen is married to Nevena Pavlovic, a Serbian opera singer, who started the blog, ‘The Wives of Westminster”.
