Snapshot

Mickey Brady has been the MP for Newry and Armagh since 2015. Before entering politics, Brady ran a welfare rights advice centre for over 20 years. In 2007, he was elected as the Sinn Fein MLA for Newry and Armagh on the Northern Ireland Assembly. During this time, he served on committees including the Committee for Agriculture and Rural Development, the Committee for Justice and the Committee for Health, Social Services and Public Safety. In 2015, he was elected for the same seat in the House of Commons. Like all Sinn Féin members, Brady doesn’t take his seat. In October 2020, Brady criticised the government via a statement on his website which read, “the decision by the British Government to reintroduce 20% VAT on face coverings and PPE in the midst of a health pandemic is absolutely absurd and reckless.” Brady is a supporter of the Narrow Water Bridge project, which would link the cross-border counties of Down and Louth. In November 2020, he spoke about project in the Irish Houses of Parliament, emphasizing the importance of “developing relationships across business, tourist and community sectors”.
