Snapshot

After receiving her early education at the Prince Henry Grammar School in Otley, the Labour member for Sheffield Hallam Olivia Blake moved South to Sheffield to study Biomedical Science at the university there, and she has never looked back. Over a decade later, Blake has since worked for the NHS and was elected onto Sheffield City Council in 2014 and lives in her ward with her husband and dog. Blake describes her horror at the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition as inspiring her to become more involved in the Labour party, but in truth politics runs in her blood – her mother has been on the Leeds city council for more than twice as long as her daughter. Blake was a committed Remain voter, and has credited Jeremy Corbyn for the only victories the party has ever achieved in the constituency, both of which happened under his tenure. In November 2020, Black suffered a miscarriage during lockdown and had to tell her partner, who was waiting outside due to Coronavirus restrictions, over the phone. She has since been campaiging for the govermnent to allow partners to attend anti-natal appointments.
